![]() ![]() Rust: Console Edition is launching on May 21, but if you decide to pre order the game before then, you will get some bonuses. As it stands right now, however, Rust: Console Edition is only coming to PS4 and Xbox One. Will that happen down the road? Possibly. The developer says this will “provide an optimal player experience while gradually introducing players to the vast amount of game play and content that makes Rust an incredible experience.”ĭouble Eleven have been working with Facepunch on a PS4 and Xbox One version of Rust for a while, and the same was announced some time back- but now that the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S are also on the market, can we expect native next-gen versions of the game as well? Well, Rust: Console Edition will, of course, be playable on the new consoles via backward compatibility, but so far, no native PS5 and Xbox Series X/S release for the game has been announced. However, the game’s console version will have a different roadmap than the PC version, with Double Eleven choosing to introduce incremental updates as they work on expanding its audience and building a community of players. Developer Double Eleven has confirmed that similar to the game’s PC version, Rust on consoles will continue to be updated following its launch, which will include a combination of content created by Facepunch studios and updates worked on by Double Eleven. Rust: Console Edition will be carving its own path separate from the game’s PC version in other ways as well. As we discussed earlier, Rust: Console Edition retains the core Rust experience, but it’s a separate version of the game, rather than being a slightly retooled version of Rust on PC. While that is a little disappointing – seeing as Rust already has a sizable install base on PC, which is something that could have been a great boost to the game on consoles right off the bat – it is understandable. While Rust: Console Edition will support cross-play across consoles (as we just discussed), it won’t have full cross-play functionalities, which is to say that the game’s console and PC versions won’t have cross compatibility. For instance, it’s been confirmed that Rust: Console Edition will support cross-play across both versions, which means players playing on PS4 and Xbox One will be able to play with and against each other. Most of that we won’t be able to judge until the game is actually out and we’ve put some time into it, but there are a few encouraging things that have been confirmed already. ![]() Rust is a multiplayer-only game, so it goes without saying that it’s going to live and die by its player base and how well it handles its online functionalities. ![]() According to Double Eleven, the studio has been working on Rust’s console port for some time now, and they’ve tried to ensure that the game not only retains the core experience of its PC counterpart, but is also optimized properly for consoles at the same time, so that it can provide an experience that is catered specifically for console players. Instead, Rust: Console Edition is being led by Double Eleven, who most recently co-developed Minecraft Dungeons with Mojang. Rust Console Edition launches for Xbox One this spring.Facepunch Studios have been expertly handling Rust and its ever-growing community for a long time now, but the game’s upcoming PS4 and Xbox One version is not going to be handled by them. It's a hardcore multiplayer survival experience where you'll need to manage hunger and hydration levels, build shelter, craft weapons and gear, and defend yourself from not just other players, but wildlife too. Rust first launched on PC back in 2013, where it stayed in Early Access for five years before getting a full release on Steam. The Rust Console Edition team say they've gathered loads of data and feedback from beta testers and will be sending out more invites soon. If you're interested in seeing what all the fuss is about, you can sign up for the chance of getting an invite on the Rust website. Now, according to a press release, Double Eleven has narrowed down that release window to sometime this spring - which could be anytime from now up until June.Ī closed beta test for the game is currently underway. However, due to the Covid-19 pandemic and employees having to work remotely, Rust Console Edition's release date slipped from late 2020 to a vague 2021. Rust was first announced for consoles back at X019 and was slated for a 2020 launch. ![]()
